Father, Son, and the Sea
“Father, Son, and the Sea” is an exploration into minimalist orchestral composition, and my teenage son plays the cello parts!
The sea has always provided humanity with an enigmatic source of longing and healing. When my mom passed in 2019, I discovered that morning walks along the beach provided comfort and reassurance that everything was going to be ok in time. In 2020, my son immersed himself in surfing as the perfect socially distanced activity. Each morning he would read the surf reports, and I would drive him to the spots that looked best. It was a strange feeling to watch him experience such joy against the backdrop of so much sorrow that year.
The compositions on “Father, Son, and the Sea” reflect that paradox. Overall, the album is not meant to be sad, but more reflective and meditative. Perhaps you will find some comfort while listening….
